Connect to Data

After creating one or more Connections, users with access to the Connection can import data into Alteryx Analytics Cloud to develop workflows in Designer Cloud. When you import data, it effectively creates a reference to the source data, leaving the source data untouched. When required for use, a small sample of source data is read into the application.

  1. Sign in to your AAC workspace. Refer to the Logging in to your Alteryx Analytics Cloud Workspace section for help.

  2. Go to the Data page.

  3. Select Upload Data.

To upload a file from your computer to workspace storage:

  1. Select Choose files.

  2. Select the file on your computer that you want to upload.

  3. Review the settings and sample that display on the right side of the screen.

  4. Optional: Modify the name of the Dataset or add a description of the Dataset in this section.

  5. Select Continue to complete the upload and import the data.

  6. Optional: Browse to the file on your computer and drag it to the Upload window.

To import a dataset from an existing Connection:

  1. Select the Connection to import data from on the left side of the screen.

  2. In the Choose a file or folder section, browse to the file you want to import.

  3. Select the plus icon to the left of the file.

  4. Review the settings and sample that display on the right side of the screen.

  5. Optional: Modify the name of the Dataset or add a description of the Dataset in this section.

  6. Select Continue to complete the import of the Dataset.

Sharing Datasets

If enabled in the Workspace Settings, Alteryx Analytics Cloud enables you to share imported Datasets with other users of the Workspace. To share a Dataset, you must:

  • Be the owner of the Imported Dataset, or it must be shared with you as an Editor of the Dataset, and

  • Have a role in Platform that enables you to share Datasets. For additional information on sharing Datasets, refer to the Share Dataset Dialog and Share Datasets help pages.

To share a dataset...

  1. Sign in to your AAC workspace. Refer to the Logging in to your Alteryx Analytics Cloud Workspace section for help.

  2. Go to the Data page.

  3. Search for the Dataset you want to share.

  4. Click the vertical 3-dot menu to the right of the Dataset and select Share.

  5. In the Search Users or Groups field, enter the name or email address of the user you want to share the dataset with. To share with multiple users at once, enter a comma-separated list of email addresses.

  6. Select the permissions you want to grant the user:

    1. Viewer: Allows the user to access the Dataset.

    2. Editor: In addition to viewer privileges, allows the user to edit the Dataset and share it with other users.

  7. Select Share.

  8. If you have additional users to add with different permissions for the same Dataset, repeat steps 5 - 7.

  9. Select "X" in the top right corner of the Share dialog to close it.

Note

To remove a user from a shared Dataset, select the Remove option from the privileges dropdown next to the user.
